The thick treaded sole lifts you an inch or so and grips properly on a wet pavement. It gives a traditional loafer some attitude and it takes the shock out of a hard floor. The white contrast stitch along the welt is a small detail that stops it looking heavy.

The saddle strap across the front is the detail that makes a loafer a loafer, and it is cut clean here with no buckles or tassels. The matte upper looks expensive next to a shiny patent. It smartens up jeans and works just as well under trousers.

Soft Inside All Day
The footbed is padded so the first hour and the eighth feel the same. There is nothing to fasten, so you step in and go. Wear them with cropped denim and socks in autumn or bare ankles once the weather turns.
